Monitoring Technologies in Farmland Biodiversity
Biodiversity monitoring is the systematic, long-term observation and recording of changes in species, habitats, and ecosystem health.
A variety of technologies can be used to capture habitat complexity by remote sensing (drones), estimate bird and insect biodiversity via camera traps and acoustic devices, and monitor soil health with automated nematode counts or soil eDNA metabarcoding.
In this booklet, we present several of these technologies, as well as the results of social research with farmers and advisors about farmland biodiversity and its monitoring.

Agroforestry: Opportunities in European Agriculture
Agroforestry - the integration of trees with crops or livestock on the same land - is gaining renewed attention across Europe. Both traditional and modern agroforestry practices and systems can strengthen farm resilience while advancing biodiversity and climate objectives.
This booklet highlights the role of agroforestry in sustainable farming. It introduces the reader to agroforestry as part of the agroecology transition, presents how agroforestry is reflected in EU policy and the future outlook from a policy perspective. The booklet shares insights from the farmer-advisor focus groups that BioMonitor4CAP carried out in six European countries and provides the reader with information on resources for practical implementation.
